GERMAN-BORN actor Alexander Dreymon has amassed legions of fans as the lead star in the sword-clashing drama The Last Kingdom.

Alexander Dreymon is a German actor born on 7 February 1983.

His original name was Alexander Doetsch but adopted the last name Dreymon after 2011.

Born in Germany, he was raised in France (where he studied in Paris), Switzerland, and America as well as Germany – before getting his acting training at Drama Centre in London.

Alexander Dreymon plays Uhtred of Beddanburg in BBC Two’s The Last Kingdom.

Uhtred is the lead character of the show and the novel series by Bernard Cornwell that the show is based on.

Uhtred himself is based on the very real Uhtred the Bold who was the Earl of Nothumbria one thousand years ago between the years 1006 and 1016.

Historically, it is believed Uhtred was murdered in 1016 after conceding to Cnut as the King of England – with the King wilfully knowing that Uhtred would be killed once summoned to meet him.

The show debuted in 2015 with a long awaited second series airing in 2017 on BBC Two, BBC America, and Netflix.

Alexander Dreymon’s other major TV role to date was in the 2013 series of American Horror Story with the subtitle Coven.

Alexander played the doomed character Luke Ramsey who was murdered by his own mother Joan (played by Patti LuPone) after he threatened to share a family secret to a coven of witches.

Alexander said he loved his time on the Ryan Murphy created show that co-starred Emma Roberts, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange, saying in 2013: “It’s fantastic! It’s a cast of great actors. Ryan writes such fantastic scenes.”

Alexander Dreymon’s biggest big screen outings have included Resistance and Christopher and His Kind.

Resistance, released in 2011, was directed by Amit Gupta and starred Andrea Riseborough, Iwan Rheon and Michael Sheen telling the story of a Welsh village where the women woke up one morning in 1944 to discover all the men had disappeared.

Also released in 2011, Christopher and His Kind saw Alexander play Matt Smith’s on-screen lover as German rent boy Caspar – who shocked Matt’s titular Christopher Isherwood (the film based on the real-life novelist’s memoirs) as he joined the Nazis in pre-World War II Germany.
